Trevor Bauer set to debut for Diamondbacks
ATLANTA (AP) - The Arizona Diamondbacks called up pitcher Trevor Bauer to make his major league debut on Thursday.
Bauer, the No. 3 overall pick of 2011, is the first player from last year's draft to play in the majors. He faced Atlanta's Jair Jurrjens.
Bauer went a combined 11-1 with a 2.33 ERA in 16 starts between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno. Arizona optioned infielder Josh Bell to Reno to make room when they added Bauer to the 25-man roster.
In 2011, Bauer won the Golden Spikes Award as the top college player in the country. He set several school records at UCLA.
In the minors this season, he struck out 56, allowed 42 hits and 22 walks in 44 2-3 combined innings in the minors.
