Marshall out, White to start for UNC
ST. LOUIS (AP) North Carolina point guard Kendall Marshall will not play in the Midwest Regional semifinal against Ohio on Friday night, and freshman Stilman White will replace him in the starting lineup.
The left-handed Marshall, perhaps the Tar Heels' most irreplaceable player, broke his right wrist Sunday when he was fouled on a drive against Creighton. He had surgery Monday to install a screw in the wrist and got his cast off Wednesday.
Marshall is averaging about eight points and 10 assists for the Tar Heels (31-5) in the NCAA tournament. He has scored in double figures for six straight games.
White began the year as No. 3 on the Tar Heels' depth chart and became Marshall's primary backup after Dexter Strickland suffered a season-ending knee injury. He has played in all but four games, averaging less than a point in 4.3 minutes of play.
