YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Eastern Michigan has dismissed junior forward James Still from basketball team activities.

The school said Friday that its policy is to "permanently'' dismiss a player convicted of a felony or pleading no contest to a felony, although the player can appeal.

Still was a freshman at Providence in April 2010, when he and teammate Johnnie Lacy were charged with assault following an attack on another student. Both were suspended.

Eastern Michigan says Still pleaded guilty Tuesday. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 8.

Earlier Friday, Eastern Michigan said Still was not being allowed to play until the case was resolved.

The school in Ypsilanti said it was aware of the criminal matter when Still was admitted this fall and that officials received "positive recommendations'' about him. Still is from Detroit.
