Former WNBA President Val Ackerman has been hired as a consultant and advisor by the NCAA for women's basketball.

She will work with NCAA vice president of women's basketball championships Anucha Browne Sanders, who was hired over the summer. Ackerman will help conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current state of women's college basketball, including the NCAA tournament. Some areas she'll be looking at include: scheduling, imaging, revenue generation, marketing and television strategies.

Ackerman, the first woman to serve as president of USA basketball, also represents the U.S. on the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Central Board. She was president of the WNBA for eight seasons after helping get the league started.
