Jayson Werth's greatest gift may be as a "comp" to his peers. Word going around is, Nick Swisher, the Yankees' eternally upbeat rightfield power supply, may seek a "Jayson Werth contract" when he hits free agency at the end of the year. To baseball fans, that is well-known to mean $126 million over seven years. In other words, it's a lot more money than most folks have guessed so far for Swish. Second-hand or not, some Yankees people have heard that's the figure Swisher is thinking about and may at least shoot for, and one other source who's spoken to Swisher said that, indeed, Swisher has shown real interest in Werth's deal. The Maurice Jones-Drew drama took on a new wrinkle on Tuesday. [Shad Khan] sparked a visceral reaction from a disgruntled [Jones-Drew]. The running back even told one person close to him that if the owner really isn't concerned with him, then he should trade him to someone who will be. If Jones-Drew is expendable, his camp believes that gives them permission to seek a trade. ... [Khan] reiterated once again that he won't back down to Jones-Drew's desires for a new contract with two years remaining on his current deal. Seems Jason Terry having his number in the rafters is a whole lot more likely these days than Jason Kidd. The former Mavericks point guard apparently burned some bridges with Mavs owner Mark Cuban when Kidd decided not to re-sign and instead head to New York. Cuban said Tuesday he thought Kidd was returning to the Mavericks before the veteran point guard surprisingly changed his mind and agreed to sign with the Knicks. "I was more than upset," Cuban told the Ben and Skin show on 103.3 [KESN-FM]. "I thought he was coming (back). I was [ticked]." That answer came after Cuban was asked if Kidd would have his jersey in the rafters one day at AAC. Cuban said there was "no chance" of that happening after the way things ended.
