Had Andy Reid given any thought to going with Nick Foles over the weekend? Here's how Reid answered the Foles question Sunday night, after the Cards game: "No." And now here's how Reid answered the Nick Foles question on Monday. "Right now, we're with Michael, and that's what we're doing. We'll evaluate as we go." We'll evaluate as we go? Really? Reid on Monday, for the first time, wavered in his support of Vick, the struggling 32-year-old quarterback who has committed more turnovers than any team in the NFL other than the Eagles. ... Later Monday, Reid backtracked. "It was the last question. I was finishing up the press conference," Reid said on his radio show on 94WIP. "Michael's our quarterback. Period. Michael's our quarterback." (CSN Philly) Comment
In the case of the lockout, Detroit Red Wings forward Danny Cleary is not a glass-half-full kind of guy. [Cleary warned Monday] that the lockout that is threatening the start of the NHL season might linger on and on. "I think people don't think it can go a year," Cleary said after several Wings held an independent skate at Troy Sports Center. "As players, we think it can. Maybe longer." ... "Just trying to be realistic," Cleary said. "I think the league is waiting for us to make the move, and we're waiting for them to move. So someone has to move. And I don't see it coming from our end. We've given them a couple of good options that they can work with, and they, obviously, feel it's not good enough. We're at a stalemate." (Detroit Free Press) Comment
An overhaul may be in store in Denver. It's like 1993 all over again, minus the excitement and minus the giddy optimism. The Rockies will enter 2013 with a lot more baggage than they did in their inaugural season. And with just as many questions. ... What's Jim Tracy's status? At this point, I honestly don't know. Given the chain of command at 20th and Blake, and the everyday role of assistant general manager Bill Geivett, I'm not sure how comfortable Tracy is with his current role. So, does Tracy want to come back? Do Dick Monfort and Dan O'Dowd want him back? Stay tuned. Will upper management figure things out? This is the biggest question of all. One Rockies veteran told me he thinks the franchise is "dysfunctional." That's a very apt description. (The Denver Post) Comment
