Coming out of a weekend where a number of quarterbacks were knocked out of games, the big one may have come to Pittsburgh, too. Two sources indicated that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a separated shoulder in Pittsburgh's Monday night's 13-10 overtime win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Roethlisberger was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for an MRI exam, according to his agent, Ryan Tollner. In addition, one source indicated that the injury is "unusual," although it's unclear if that is good or bad news. "There's a lot to be figured out and we probably won't know anything definitive until the morning, but that's what the [Steelers] team doctor said," a source said. So much for a quiet week leading into TCU's showdown with Texas. That's what coaching speculation will do to you, although [Gary Patterson] was quick to quell that Monday. According to reports, Patterson is either a frontrunner or a leading candidate for the soon-to-be-vacant job at Arkansas. ... Patterson shot down Arkansas talk quickly Monday during the Big 12 teleconference. "I don't think there's anything to that," Patterson said. Even if there were, Patterson wouldn't be talking about it. He's trying to get TCU ready for the game at Texas. It will mark the first time the Horned Frogs (6-4, 3-4 in Big 12) have taken over the Thanksgiving spot opposite Texas (8-2, 5-2) that had been occupied by Texas A&M. (Fox Sports Southwest) Comment

Before the decision had been made for him, Phil Jackson hadn't entirely warmed up to the idea of coaching the Lakers again. Nonetheless, he was surprised when they called him near midnight Sunday with news that Mike D'Antoni would be coach of the Lakers, not him. "I wish it would have been a little bit cleaner," a relaxed and chatty Jackson said in a phone interview Monday night with The Times. "It could have been much more circumspect and respectful of everybody that's involved. It seemed slimy to be awoken with this kind of news. It's just weird." ... [There] were drawbacks if he got the job, he reasoned. ... "I don't know if they have the mobility and agility to contend with the East. To call this a championship-bound team, that's a misnomer."
