Anthem Discoveries
It's a very slow day in the sports world (as you can tell by the item above), so this has become national anthem day here at Hot Clicks. In today's A.M. edition, we told you about the NFL's love affair with former
American Idol contestants performing
The Star-Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl. That item generated a few interesting e-mail from Hot Clicks Nation. The first comes from
Daniel Rubin, who said his all-time favorite rendition came from
Smokey Robinson at the 1986 World Series. I have to admit, until I watched
the clip this afternoon, I wasn't familiar with Smokey's version and I had no idea he actually did half
Star-Spangled Banner and half
America the Beautiful. (People seem to get very upset when you change the anthem around, so I wonder if this would be a huge controversy today.) In addition to Robinson, I was also treated to
this version of the anthem by third-, fourth- and fifth-graders from Hawthorne Elementary School in Ohio. (Thanks to
Mike L., of Columbus, Ohio, for the link.)
