I don't want to sound like a softie, but it does kind of suck that two great playoff games had to be determined by a pair of special teams gaffes. The Ravens lost a chance to send AFC Championship to overtime when Ravens kicker
Billy Cundiff missed a 32-yard field goal. I know many of you have your issues with CBS play-by-play man,
Jim Nantz, but I thought
his call of the errant kick was outstanding. (Granted,
Nantz did mess up the call of the previous play when Ravens wide receiver
Lee Evans came oh-so-close to catching a touchdown pass before Patriots defensive back
Sterling Moore knocked the ball out of his hands at the last possible second.) As for Williams, Twitter reared its ugly head after his fumble (his second return miscue of the game) led to the Giants beating the 49ers in overtime. The wide receiver, who had to fill in for an injured
Ted Ginn,
received death threats and other vile messages from psychotic fans. Fortunately, Williams' teammates came to his defense, (minus
this photo)
including linebacker Patrick Willis.
