AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The Texas Longhorns will pay tribute to former football coach Darrell Royal during their game against Iowa State.

Royal coached the Longhorns from 1957 to 1976 and won two national championships in 1963 and 1969. His 167 victories at Texas is still a school record. Royal died Wednesday at age 88.

Flags flew at half-staff at the stadium that bears Royal's name and white "DKR" initials have been placed inside the burnt-orange Longhorn logo at midfield. Texas also will wear a similar helmet logo the rest of the season.

A wreath has been placed at the feet of a Royal statue inside the stadium.

Texas also planned to run its first play from scrimmage out of the wishbone, the formation Royal introduced to major college football in 1968.
