FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- New England Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light has retired after 11 years in which he played in five Super Bowls, winning three.

Light is one of five players to have started five Super Bowls. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is one of the others. Brady called Light one of the best teammates he's ever had.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick recalled some of Light's pranks but said the three-time Pro Bowl selection "had a great sense when to lighten up and when to tighten up."

Light said he knew it was time to retire because he wanted to get out while he was still upright and able to spend time with his three children while they're young.
