AP Pro32 comments about Steelers
NEW YORK (AP) - Comments on the Pittsburgh Steelers by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
PITTSBURGH STEELERS (15)
Chris Berman (ESPN, 13) - Early bye week helpful for walking wounded.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 15) - Return of Rashard Mendenhall following a bye week should be a lift.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 15) - Comment currently unavailable
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 12) - Getting Polamalu and Harrison back will be huge for this team.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 13) - Bye week could give Troy Polamalu and James Harrison time to get back in the lineup. Good news for a Steelers' team that has been woefully inconsistent on defense. Next up: Eagles at home.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 15) - The Steelers return from their bye this weekend. They are 14-9 all-time after byes.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 17) - It's still too early to tell about these guys. My guess is we find out this weekend versus Eagles.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 15) - Ben Roethlisberger's off to a terrific start, but this aging defense is hardly keeping pace.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 16) - The Steelers had a bye last week but they also have real questions about their defense. They need Polamalu and Harrison back at the very least.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 13) - The bye week will come in handy as the Steelers need to get healthy, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 18) - The bye week bought more time for ailing players like safety Troy Polamalu, linebacker James Harrison and running back Rashard Mendenhall to further recover from leg injuries.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 16) - Most teams don't like an early bye, but it looks like it came at a good time for the Steelers.
