BEREA, Ohio (AP) - Browns rookie running back Trent Richardson disclosed he played much of the season with two broken ribs.

Richardson, who sat out Sunday's season finale in Pittsburgh with a sprained ankle, said Monday that he played nine games with the broken ribs. The Browns listed Richardson as having a rib cartilage injury throughout the season on their injury report. Richardson wore a protective jacket and finished with 950 yards, breaking many of Hall of Famer Jim Brown's team rookie rushing records.

Richardson was mostly disappointed with his season. He missed most of training camp following knee surgery and never got close to being 100 percent.

The Browns fired coach Pat Shurmur after a 5-11 season. Richardson hopes Browns owner Jimmy Haslam pursues his college coach, Alabama's Nick Saban, to replace Shurmur.
