2 horses drop out of Breeders' Cup races

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Worth Repeating, whose owners include New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, and Sustained are out of their respective Breeders' Cup races at Santa Anita.

Worth Repeating won't run in the $500,000 Marathon, while Sustained is out of the $1 million Juvenile Fillies Turf, with both races to be run later Friday on opening day of the weekend world championships.

Trainer Mike Machowsky says Worth Repeating wasn't quite right after training on Thursday and was checked again by a vet on Friday. Machowsky says the 6-year-old horse wasn't 100 percent and he won't run him in that condition. Brees is part of the Donkey Island Racing LLC group that owns Worth Repeating.

Sustained's defection allows Ireland-based Infanta Branca into the Juvenile Fillies Turf. Trainer Dale Romans says Sustained had been bothered by a right front hoof bruise, which flared up again Friday and resulted in the decision to drop out.
