Sportswriter, Sunny Desert win Big A stakes

NEW YORK (AP) - NEW YORK - Sportswriter and Sunny Desert, a pair of 1-5 favorites, posted wins Wednesday in the $100,000 divisions of the New York Stallion Stakes for 3-year-olds at Aqueduct.

In the Thunder Rumble, Javier Castellano guided Sportswriter, a gray gelding, to his fourth win in 11 starts this season for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. He beat Anaphylaxis by three-quarters of a length, paying $2.40 to win. The time was 1:24.22 for seven furlongs on the fast track.

Sunny Desert stretched her winning streak to five with a 2 3/4-length win over Lady On the Run in the Staten Island for fillies. Ramon Dominguez was aboard for trainer John Parisella as Sunny Desert was clocked in 1:24, paying $2.70 to win.
