COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Adam Rippon, a two-time junior world figure skating champion, is switching coaches.

Rippon announced Tuesday he will train with Rafael Arutunian, who once coached Michelle Kwan, after working last season with Jason Dungjen and Yuka Sato. Rippon says he decided he needed "a different approach" after finishing a disappointing 13th at the world championships in March.

Rippon, who turns 23 in November, has struggled to find the same success in the senior ranks that he had as a junior. He won his first medal at the U.S. championships last season, finishing second after being fifth the previous two years. He has not made an international podium since winning the bronze at Skate Canada in 2010.

Rippon will participate in two Grand Prixs this season, Cup of China and NHK Trophy.
