COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. (AP) -- Canadian skier Robbie Dixon broke his right leg after crashing in a race Thursday.

He was at Copper Mountain preparing for downhill and super-G races in Lake Louise, Alberta, next weekend.

The 27-year-old Dixon was scheduled to have surgery in Vail on Thursday night. There's no timetable for his return.

Dixon, from Whistler, British Columbia, has finished in the top 10 on the World Cup circuit 11 times in his career. He almost earned a podium spot last season in Beaver Creek when he finished fourth in the super-G.

He said in a statement that he's "going to stay positive. I'm fortunate to have some pretty amazing teammates who I can call my friends."
