Pyeongchang changes some key venues
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - Pyeongchang's organizing committee has announced changes to the location of the opening and closing ceremonies and some sports during the 2018 Winter Games.
The committee said in a statement on Wednesday the new site for the ceremonies will be Hoenggae, a little over a mile from the original proposed site at the ski jumping venue in the Alpensia ski resort.
The change was due to possible accessibility and weather-related issues at the original site.
The committee says venues for speedskating and ice hockey also have been changed.
It says the site for downhill events remains the same as South Korea's forestry authorities have decided to remove the site from a protected list.
