LONDON (AP) - IOC President Jacques Rogge has canceled a trip to Rio de Janeiro and will miss a key meeting on preparations for the 2016 Olympics.

IOC spokesman Mark Adams tells The Associated Press that Rogge's doctors advised him to avoid the long flight following his recent hip replacement surgery.

Adams says Rogge also wants to stay in Switzerland to monitor the cleanup of IOC headquarters in Lausanne following the serious flooding of the building caused by a burst water main.

Rogge had planned to be in Rio this weekend for the official "debrief'' after the London Olympics, a series of meetings in which British organizers pass on their experience to Brazilian organizers.

Adams says Rogge's doctors told him to "cut back on long-haul travel following the hip operation to be on the safe side.''
