NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) -- Nottingham Forest says owner Nigel Doughty has been found dead at his home. He was 54.

The second-tier English club released a statement on Saturday saying Doughty, who bought Forest in 1999, was found dead in the gym at his home in Skillington, a village in the central-eastern county of Lincolnshire.

The statement says "it is with enormous sadness that Nottingham Forest announce the death of the club's owner Nigel Doughty.''

Doughty saved Forest from going into administration by buying out the club and investing more than 100 million pounds ($160 million) of his personal fortune.

He stepped down as chairman in October.
