MANCHESTER, England (AP) -- Manchester United has signed a three-year sponsorship deal with a Bulgarian mobile telecommunications firm, expanding the English champion's collection of global backers.

United commercial director Richard Arnold says GLOBUL, which is owned by Greek telecoms giant OTE, "is the first mobile company we have teamed up with in Europe.''

United has also sold news and interviews for mobile platforms in the Middle East and Asia.

United has been capitalizing on its appeal as one of the world's most popular and valuable clubs to attract sponsors.

Last season, commercial revenue soared by 27 percent to 103.4 million pounds (then $168 million)

Bulgaria's all-time leading goalscorer Dimitar Berbatov has played for United since 2008.
