Barcelona beats Valencia to advance to Copa del Rey final

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) -- Cesc Fabregas scored one goal and set up another as Barcelona beat Valencia 2-0 on Wednesday night to win on 3-1 aggregate and advance to the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao.

Lionel Messi lobbed a long pass for Fabregas to chase down and deftly chip over goalkeeper Diego Alves in the 15th minute for his 15th goal of the season.

Valencia's Sofiane Feghouli was ejected in the 76th minute, and five minutes later Fabregas set up Xavi Hernandez for his 10th goal.

Barcelona, which has won the Copa a record 25 times, meets Bilbao in the final at Madrid on May 25, Bilbao, which lost the 2009 final to the Catalans, has won it 24 times.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- American forward Joe Gyau made his debut for Hoffenheim in a 1-0 loss to second-division Greuther Fuerth in the quarterfinals of the German Cup.

The 19-year-old from Silver Spring, Md., entered in the 79th minute in place of American midfielder Fabian Johnson, joining fellow American Daniel Williams on the field for Hoffenheim. Gyau's father, Phillip, made six appearances for the U.S. team and his grandfather, Joseph, played for Ghana.

Olivier Occean scored in the 44th minute for Greuther Fuerth.

Bayern Munich reached the semifinals by winning 2-0 at Stuttgart on goals by Franck Ribery in the 30th minute and Mario Gomez in the 46th. Borussia Moenchengladbach defeated Hertha Berlin 2-0 in overtime on Filip Daems' penalty kick in the 101st and Oscar Wendt's goal in the 120th.

Borussia Dortmund won 4-0 at fourth-tier Holstein Kiel on Tuesday.

AMSTERDAM (AP) -- American forward Jozy Altidore scored AZ Alkmaar's final two goals in a 6-0 rout at ADO The Hague in the Dutch first division.

Altidore entered in the 76th minute, scored in the 85th off a through pass and in the 88th following a rebound, his first goals since Dec. 4. Altidore has seven league goals this season and 11 overall.

Charlison Benshop scored the first three goals for AZ.

MIDDLESBROUGH, England (AP) -- Sunderland will host Arsenal in the fifth round of the FA Cup after a 2-1 overtime victory over Middlesbrough in a replay on Stephane Sessegnon's 113th-minute goal.

Sunderland took a 42nd-minute lead when Jack Colback scored, but Lukas Jutkiewicz's first Boro goal tied it in the 57th.

MILAN (AP) -- Martin Caceres scored twice in his Juventus debut, giving the visitors a 2-1 win at AC Milan in the first leg of the Italian Cup semifinals.

Caceres gave Juventus the lead in the 53rd minute with a tap in, but Stephan El Shaarawy tied it in the 62nd. Caceras got the go-ahead goal in the total-goals series in the 83rd.

The second leg will be at Turin on March 20 or 21.

In Serie A, Catania held Roma to a 1-1 draw as the teams played the remaining 25 minutes of a game suspended last month.

PARIS (AP) -- Valenciennes defeated defending champion Lille 2-1 on goals by Mathieu Dossevi and Vincent Aboubakar for a berth in the French Cup quarterfinals.

Dossevi flicked home a free kick from Dusan Djuric in the 71st minute, and Aboubakar doubled the lead seven minutes later with a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced over the line. Nolan Roux got Lille's goal with a header in the 88th, and Valenciennes defender Rafael cleared Franck Beria's lob off the line in stoppage time.

Lyon rallied to beat Bordeaux 3-1 in overtime. Jussie put Bordeaux ahead in the 23rd, but Alexandre Lacazette tied it in the 36th, Bafetimbi Gomis scored from close range in the 96th and substitute Jimmy Briand converted a cross from Lisandro Lopez in the 118th.

Montpellier defeated second-division Chatearoux 2-0 with goals from French league scoring leader Olivier Giroud in the 37th and Younes Belhanda in the 88th. Third-division Gazelec Ajaccio beat fourth-division club Drancy 2-0 on goals from Nicolas Verdier in the 32nd and Mickael Colloredo in the 45th.

GLASGOW (AP) -- Celtic opened a four-point lead over second-place Rangers in the Scottish Premier League, winning 4-0 at Hearts to extend their domestic winning streak to 16 games.

Goals by Scott Brown in the third minute, Victor Wanyama in the 20th and Joe Ledley in the 31st opened a 3-0 halftime lead. Gary Hooper added a goal in the 60th.

Celtic (20-3-2) has 62 points, while Rangers (18-3-4) has 58.
