FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- United States defender Timothy Chandler has decided to extend his contract with Nuremberg despite being courted by Europa League-bound Stuttgart.

Chandler signed a two-year extension that keeps him at the club until June 30, 2015.

Chandler said Wednesday he was "honored'' to be sought by a club headed for a European competition next season, "but for me it was clear that Nuremberg was my first choice.''

Chandler says he's grateful to Nuremberg, "where I became a Bundesliga player.''
