MILAN (AP) -- Manchester City coach Roberto Mancini has downplayed rumors he is interested in signing AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Mancini met with Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani at the Italian club's headquarters on Monday, but the former Inter Milan coach says it was simply a courtesy visit.

Mancini says, "Milan fans can stay calm'' but added that "Ibrahimovic is a great champion.''

The pair spent two years together at Inter after Mancini signed Ibrahimovic in 2006.

Ibrahimovic was Serie A's top goal scorer last season with 28 goals.

The 30-year-old Sweden captain recently said he wants to stay at Milan until his contract ends in 2014 but the club was forced last week to deny reports of a fall-out with coach Massimiliano Allegri.
