MONTREAL (AP) -- The Montreal Impact have signed Marco Di Vaio, making the Italian forward their first designated player.

The 35-year-old former Italian international will be available to play once the transfer window officially opens June 27. He is to arrive in Montreal with his family Sunday.

Di Vaio has spent the last four seasons with Bologna. He also has played with Lazio, Bari, Salernitana, Parma, Juventus and Genoa. He has 142 goals in 342 games in the top Italian league.

The tag of designated player means only a portion of his pay is applied to the team's salary cap.
