COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- FC Copenhagen has signed a two-year contract with Ariel Jacobs, the former coach of Belgian powerhouse Anderlecht.

In May, Jacobs announced he would not renew his contract after four-and-a-half years in charge of Anderlecht, saying it was time to move on.

Copenhagen disappointed last season, ending second in the Danish league after winning the tournament nine times in the past 20 years.

Jacobs, 58, replaces sporting director Carsten V. Jensen, who stepped in as coach after former Malmo FF coach Roland Nilsson was fired less than eight months after he was headhunted by Copenhagen.

Jacobs took charge of Anderlecht in 2007, and guided them to two league titles and one Belgian Cup. Anderlecht has won a record 31 Belgian league titles.
