CARSON, Calif. (AP) -- Omar Gonzalez, the reigning Major League Soccer defender of the year, has been activated by the Los Angeles Galaxy and could make his season debut Wednesday against the Philadelphia Union.

Gonzalez tore a ligament in his left knee during training in January and underwent arthroscopic surgery. He returned to practice with the team in May.

Gonzalez, in his fourth season with the Galaxy, was the MLS rookie of the year in 2009.
