LONDON (AP) -- Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has agreed to a five-year contract that ties him to the club until the summer of 2017.

Mancini led City to the Premier League title on the final day of last season with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers.

On Monday, he called City a "fantastic" club and said the opportunity to build on its success is "enormous." The Italian began managing at City in 2009, replacing Mark Hughes. In 2011, the club won the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Stoke City.

Manchester City begins defense of its Premier League title at home against newly promoted Southampton on Aug. 19.
