COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ben Speas scored in the 87th minute as the Columbus Crew beat Stoke City 2-1 in a football friendly Tuesday.

Stoke opened for Steke in the 23rd minute after Jonathan Walters' crisp header at the near post off a ball from Ryan Shotton.

Aaron Horton equalized for the English club in the 71st minute off a pass from Emilio Renteria, before Speas took a ball that ricocheted off teammate Aaron Schoenfeld and fired a strike from 16 yards into the netting.

Stoke City's three-game preseason U.S. tour continues Saturday against minor league club Orlando City, before playing Major League Soccer side Sporting Kansas City on Aug. 1. Stoke's first league match is Aug. 18 against Reading.
