Men's Sunday Roundup: Spain eliminated from Olympic tournament

NEWCASTLE, England (AP) -- Spain was eliminated from the men's Olympic soccer tournament Sunday after another 1-0 loss at the London Olympics.

Honduras forward Jerry Bengtson scored the lone goal in the seventh minute, knocking a header past Spain goalkeeper David de Gea in the Group D pool-play match.

Honduras is now second in the group with four points, two behind leader Japan, which had defeated Spain 1-0 on Thursday.

Group A

• Great Britain 3, United Arab Emirates 1 -- At Wembley, England, Prince William and David Beckham looked on as Britain won its first men's soccer match at the London Olympics.

Ryan Giggs, playing in his first major tournament, scored the opening goal in the 16th minute to become the oldest goalscorer at the games.

Rashed Eisa equalized in front of 82,239 fans at Wembley Stadium, but Scott Sinclair scored in the 73rd and Daniel Sturridge added another in the 76th.

Britain now has four points in Group A, the same as Senegal. The UAE is eliminated.

• Senegal 2, Uruguay 0 -- At Wembley, England, Moussa Konate scored two first-half goals and 10-man Senegal handed the Uruguayans their first Olympic loss.

Konate tapped in a rebound in the 10th minute at Wembley Stadium and then headed in another in the 37th.

Senegal defender Abdoulaye Ba was given a red card for tripping Luis Suarez in the 30th.

Senegal leads Group A with four points from two games. Two-time Olympic champion Uruguay has three points.

Group B

• South Korea 2, Switzerland 1 -- At Coventry, England, Kim Bok-yung scored the winning goal in the 63rd minute, and South Korea beat Switzerland 2-1 on Sunday in men's Olympic soccer.

Park Chu-young also scored for the South Koreans, knocking in a diving header in the 57th, but Innocent Emeghara pulled one back for the Swiss in the 60th.

Group C

• Brazil 3, Belarus 1 -- At Manchester, England, Neymar set up two goals and scored another off a free kick Sunday to help Brazil beat Belarus and advance to the quarterfinals.

Neymar scored with a right-footed shot in the 65th minute as Brazil struggled to get near the Belarus goal despite controlling possession at Old Trafford.

Belarus had taken the lead when Brazilian-born playmaker Renan Bressan scored in the eighth minute, but Alexandre Pato tied it up with a header in the 15th after a cross by Neymar. The Brazil star also set up Oscar's final goal in injury time.

The victory gives Brazil six points in the group, three more than Belarus.

• Egypt 1, New Zealand 1 -- New Zealand forward Chris Wood gave his team the lead from in front of the goal after a corner in the 17th minute at Old Trafford, and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah equalized from close range following a counterattack in the 40th at Manchester.

Both teams had chances at the end but couldn't capitalize.

Egypt and New Zealand lost their opening matches and will need victories in the final round to advance. New Zealand will face Brazil and Egypt will play Belarus.
