COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- Veteran goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen is retiring from international football to focus on his club career with Premier League team Stoke.

The 36-year-old 'keeper cited age as a reason for quitting on Tuesday after playing 101 internationals. He says he has worn the Denmark No. 1 jersey for more than a decade and describes his decision to quit as "wise.''

Sorensen was not in the Danish squad at the European Championship in Poland and Ukraine earlier this year because of a back injury.

On Monday, veteran midfielder Christian Poulsen announced he was retiring after playing 92 games for Denmark.
