LONDON (AP) -- Arsenal says Japan international winger Ryo Miyaichi has signed for Premier League club Wigan on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old Miyaichi, who spent four months on loan at Bolton last season, joins Wigan with the prospect of gaining more first-team experience. He is the first Japanese player to join the club.

Miyaichi played 14 times for Bolton last season and was involved in two League Cup victories for Arsenal. In May 2012, he made his debut for Japan against Azerbaijan.

Arsenal says in a statement that the "football club wishes Ryo the best of luck during his time with Wigan."

Wigan's first game of the new Premier League season is at home to European champion Chelsea on Sunday.
