TURIN, Italy (AP) -- -Juventus defender Lucio is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after tearing ankle ligaments in training.

Lucio, who has only been at Juventus for a month, twisted his right ankle in Friday's session and underwent medical tests on Saturday.

Juventus revealed the extent of the injury Sunday, saying tests "have revealed a complete tear of the defender's anterior talofibular ligament.''

Lucio is expected to be out for three to four months.

The Brazilian joined Juventus last month after terminating his contract with Inter Milan by mutual consent.

Juve kicked off the defense of its Serie A title with a 2-0 victory over Parma on Saturday.
