Jordan beats Australia in World Cup qualifier |

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) -- Jordan stunned Australia 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier Tuesday, dealing a serious blow to the Socceroos' hopes of reaching the tournament in Brazil.
Jordan, which has never reached a World Cup and is ranked 87th in the world, opened the scoring courtesy of a 50th-minute penalty from Hassan Abdul Fattah. It doubled its lead in the 72nd when Amer Deeb found his way past the defense and scored the winner.
Australia pulled a goal back in the 85th, when Archie Thompson stole the ball just outside the area and fired a low shot past diving keeper Amer Shafi.
With the victory, Jordan moves into second in Group B behind Japan with four points. Australia remains tied with Iraq and Oman on two points.
