HARRISON, N.J. (AP) -- The New York Red Bulls have signed Brazilian defender Digao, the younger brother of Real Madrid midfielder Kaka.

The Major League Soccer team announced the signing of the much-traveled Digao Friday. General manager Erik Soler said the 26-year-old had a trial with the club this week and will be added to the team's roster after his visa and international transfer papers are in hand.

Digao most recently played with the Portuguese side FC Penafiel, appearing in 10 matches in 2010-11. Prior to that he played with AC Rimini and AC Milan in Italy, Standard Liege in Belgium and US Lecce and FC Crotone, also in Italy.
