HOFFENHEIM, Germany (AP) -- Hoffenheim midfielder Boris Vukcevic was in a critical condition on Friday and undergoing surgery following a serious traffic accident.

A spokeswoman for the Bundesliga club confirmed to The Associated Press that Vukcevic was undergoing an operation after being "seriously injured.''

The 22-year-old Vukcevic's car reportedly collided with a truck on the road between Hoffenheim and Heidelberg on Friday.

Vukcevic scored six Bundesliga goals in 78 Bundesliga games for Hoffenheim since switching from Stuttgart's youth setup in 2008.

Hoffenheim was due to issue a statement later Friday.
