De Boer: 2022 World Cup would be better in winter
LONDON (AP) -- Former Netherlands midfielder Ronald de Boer, who worked on Qatar's winning World Cup bid, says he thinks the 2022 tournament would be better in the winter.
The local organizers have been resisting calls, led by UEFA President Michel Platini, to move the event from the summer on health grounds.
At the Leaders in Football conference, De Boer says "the best thing for me is the winter. For the fans the best thing is the winter.''
De Boer says he told officials "from the start, why not (the winter).''
De Boer, who still works for the Qatari Football Association as a technical advisor, says we "need to come together to a common solution.''
