CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago Fire have re-signed German defender Arne Friedrich.

After signing with Chicago last March, Friedrich made 23 appearances and had one goal for the Fire. The two-time German World Cup veteran was part of a back line that held opponents to 41 goals during the regular season, tied for second best in the Eastern Conference.

The Fire announced the signing Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not released.
