GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) -Scotland international David Goodwillie has been put on probation for 12 months after pleading guilty to assaulting a man during a night out in Glasgow.

The Blackburn striker will be supervised by a council officer for the duration of the probation order and must carry out 80 hours of unpaid work in the community.

A Glasgow court heard that the 23-year-old Goodwillie repeatedly punched and kicked John Friel, who had knocked unconscious Danny Swanson - one of Goodwillie's former teammates at Scottish club Dundee United - in November 2010.

Goodwillie had been convicted of an assault 12 months earlier, receiving a fine and a compensation order for the offense.
