SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) -Southampton moved out of the Premier League relegation zone for the first time this season by beating Reading 1-0 on Saturday from Jason Puncheon's second-half goal.

Puncheon scored in the 61st minute at St. Mary's Stadium, his right-footed strike sliding across goalkeeper Adam Federici and into the far corner of the net for his second league goal of the season.

Southampton rose three spots to 15th place, two points above the drop zone, while Reading stayed 19th, six points from safety.

Reading beat Southampton to win the second-tier League Championship title last season.
