KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -Malaysia was held to a 1-1 home draw by Thailand in Sunday's first leg of their Suzuki Cup semifinal, giving the Thais an edge going into Thursday's return fixture.

Malaysia went ahead in the 48th minute. Mahali Jasuli crossed from the right and Norsharul Idlan slipped between markers, heading toward the bottom left corner. Thai goalkeeper Kawin Thammasatchanan got a hand to the ball but could not keep it out of the net.

Thailand equalized in the 79th minute in similar style. Right-back Piyapol Bantao swung in a cross and Teerasil Dangda lept above the defense for a long-range header that floated beyond the grasp of the goalkeeper and into the top right corner.

On Saturday, the Philippines were held 0-0 by Singapore in the other semifinal first leg.
