Beira-Mar wins at Gil Vicente in Portugal

LISBON, Portugal (AP) -Beira-Mar escaped the relegation zone in the Portuguese league after Javier Balbao scored a late goal in a 2-1 win at Gil Vicente on Sunday.

Midfielder Sergio "Serginho'' Costa put Beira-Mar ahead after 20 minutes.

Defender Claudio scored the equalizer for the hosts from the penalty spot in the 62nd after Pedro Moreira fouled Luis Carlos, but Balbao netted the winner three minutes from time on a counterattack.

Also on Sunday, Maritimo downed Nacional 2-0, Rio Ave drew Pacos Ferreira 0-0 and Guimaraes beat Olhanense 2-0.
