MANCHESTER, England (AP) -Manchester United will enter 2013 with a seven-point lead in the Premier League after beating West Bromwich Albion 2-0 on Saturday for its seventh win in eight matches.

Robin van Persie scored his league-leading 14th goal, and 17th of the season in all competitions, in the 90th minute to add to West Brom defender Gareth McAuley's own goal in the ninth minute at Old Trafford.

McAuley diverted a fierce cross from Ashley Young into his own net, and Van Persie came off the bench midway through the second half to curl in a brilliant attempt.

The return of captain Nemanja Vidic helped United to finish only its fourth league game this season without conceding a goal. The Serbian center back has been plagued by injuries in the past 16 months.
