SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) - Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden could not play a whole set as Zheng Jie of China retired against her at 5-1 on the last day of the group stage at the WTA's season-ending Tournament of Champions.

Arvidsson jumped in for Maria Kirilenko, who pulled out of the competition Thursday with an upper respiratory illness. Arvidsson and Zheng had no chance to advance to the semifinals.

The top two in Group Sredets - Nadia Petrova and Tsvetana Pironkova - played later Friday to determine who finishes first and second in the group.

In Group Serdika, Taiwan's Su-wei Hsieh will play Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova in the last match of the day, though neither can advance after Caroline Wosniacki and Italy's Roberta Vinci secured their berths for the semis.
