Free agent center Kyrylo Fesenko will sign with Indiana for the rest of 2012
The 7-foot Ukraine product spent his first four NBA seasons with the Utah Jazz
The Pacers needed a big man after the retirement of longtime center Jeff Foster
Free agent center Kyrylo Fesenko will sign with Indiana for the rest of the season, a source close to the situation told SI.com.
The 7-foot, 290-pounder from the Ukraine spent his first four seasons with Utah in a limited role, although he started for the injured Mehmet Okur last postseason and showed his worth as a defender and rebounder. He was set to join Golden State in December, but the two sides parted ways before formalizing a deal, in part, because Fesenko had not yet fully recovered from September knee surgery.
He chose the Pacers over the Celtics, who will reportedly sign center Ryan Hollins instead. The Pacers were in need of depth behind All-Star center Roy Hibbert in the frontcourt, especially considering the loss of veteran center Jeff Foster on Thursday. Foster, who played just 11 games this season, announced his retirement due to chronic back pain.
