WASHINGTON (AP) - Top pitching prospect Jose Fernandez has been added to the Miami Marlins' roster and is scheduled make his major-league debut next Sunday against the Mets in New York.

The move Sunday was necessitated because of injuries to right-handers Nathan Eovaldi and Henderson Alvarez. Both had been expected to be part of the rotation, but instead they'll start the season on the disabled list.

The 20-year-old Fernandez was the Marlins' first-round draft pick in 2011.

Miami also added right-handers John Maine and Alex Sanabia to the roster. Sanabia will join the rotation.

Ricky Nolasco will start the Marlins' opener Monday at Washington. Right-hander Kevin Slowey is scheduled to start the second game of the series and left-hander Wade LeBlanc will start the finale.
