D-backs' Ross heads to DL with dislocated hip
PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed outfielder Cody Ross on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated right hip and recalled pitchers Chaz Roe and Tyler Skaggs from Triple-A Reno.
Arizona also optioned right-hander Zeke Spruill to Reno.
Ross was injured while running to first base in the first inning of Arizona's 9-5 loss to the New York Mets on Sunday. He stumbled just before reaching the bag and was taken to the hospital after being carted off the field.
The Diamondbacks said Ross will have surgery on Tuesday to repair a small fracture in his hip. Ross was hitting .278 with eight homers and 38 RBIs in his first season with the Diamondbacks.
The left-handed Skaggs was 2-3 with a 5.35 ERA with Arizona before being sent down on July 27.
Roe, a right-hander, was 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA in four appearances over two stints with Arizona earlier this season.
Spruill was 0-2 with a 5.56 ERA in six games with the Diamondbacks.
