MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - As he prepares to make the jump from college to the pros, Shabazz Muhammad has told his famously involved father to take a seat on the bench.

Muhammad was introduced at a news conference Friday, one day after the Minnesota Timberwolves acquired him with the 14th overall draft pick.

Muhammad's father, Ron Holmes, was heavily involved in his basketball upbringing. But Holmes was occasionally a source of trouble. His handling of Muhammad's recruitment led to a suspension from the NCAA and Holmes is on house arrest after pleading not guilty to bank fraud and conspiracy charges.

Muhammad says he spoke to his father last month about not being so involved in his basketball affairs.

Muhammad says they remain close but he feels it's important to be his own man now.
