KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Louisville assistant Kareem Richardson has been hired as the basketball coach at Missouri-Kansas City, where he'll try to rebuild a program heading to a new conference next season.

Richardson, who will be introduced at a news conference Monday, agreed to a five-year deal worth $250,000 annually. He'll remain with the top-seeded Cardinals for the NCAA tournament. Louisville opens against North Carolina A&T or Liberty on Thursday in Lexington, Ky.

Richardson has ties to UMKC after serving as an assistant from 2007-08. He's also been an assistant at Wright State, Indiana State, Xavier, Drake and his alma mater, Evansville.

The 38-year-old coach takes over for Matt Brown, who was fired after five seasons with the `Roos leaving the Summit League for the Western Athletic Conference next season.
