WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama has congratulated coach Geno Auriemma (aw-ree-EH'-muh) and the University of Connecticut women's basketball team on winning their eighth NCAA championship.

The White House says that in a telephone call Wednesday, Obama commended the Huskies for their extraordinary season and their run in the tournament. The Huskies defeated Louisville 93-60 on Tuesday night to claim the championship.

The president also asked the coach to relay his congratulations to Breanna Stewart, who was named most outstanding player of the Final Four.
